IANA - Internet Assigned Numbers Authority

- used to have authority over all names and numbers

NOW - IANA is incorporated into ICANN and the structure is more formalised

ICANN - Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names

Supporting Orgs

- ALL supporting organisations have a specific area of expertise

- ASO makes policy recommendations to ICANN

all RIRs are members of the ASO

Policy Development

policy developed bottom-up structure (using existing OPEN processes)

in our region this is done by the LIR-WG or RIPE.

RIPE & RIPE NCC are very interdependent organisations

- a lot of input from RIPE / Activity Plan is basically determined in RIPE
