CURRENT_MEETING_REPORT_ Reported by David Hofert/Sun Microsystems Minutes of the MIME Content-Type for SGML Documents Working Group (MIMESGML) Note: Due to unforeseen difficulties, the co-chair that planned to attend the meeting, Paul Grosso, was unable to attend. The participants present then decided to meet in a less formal fashion and discuss the work underway. Current Draft Discussion Objections to the current draft were discussed among the attendees in Stockholm and on the MBONE as follows: o Bill Smith from EBT suggested that the current three drafts require further attention as follows: - The MULTI-PART RELATED draft needs work but appears to be close. - The MIME-SGML draft has serious flaws and needs significant work or to be rewritten. - The MESSAGE EXTERNAL BODY draft may not be required if the MIME-SGML draft is rewritten. o Further discussion about the MIME-SGML draft revolved around the apparent problem that the entire document and all entities must be delivered to each recipient. The limited solution proposed within the draft is for a community to share certain entities, but the draft does not have a designed solution for others outside of the community to obtain these entities. o Other attendees within the Stockholm group were in general agreement regarding these points. Note that the attendance was small due to the session being held at 7:30 p.m. and that the meeting started late due to the confusion regarding the chair. o Don Stinchfield from EBT volunteered to author a new draft for this group that was more general but that still followed the direction of the charter. This draft will be posted to the mailing list in August. This draft will include a discussion of problems with the current draft and how the new draft solves those problems. The new proposal will revolve around the use of catalogs as has already been discussed to some extent on the alias. Moving Forward The Area co-Director, John Klensin, was present and agreed that he would allow the new draft to be circulated to the group. Don Stinchfield will forward more information about the draft when it is ready.
