The Minutes below should be considered a Rough Draft - 4/01/92 Megan Minutes from Dynamic Creation of Network Links (T3 Circuits) BOF Reported By Andy Nicholson / Cray Research, Inc. The documents describing the work done at Cray Research in this area have been recently published as RFC's, 1306 and 1307. At this meeting there was an almost total turnover of interested attendees, but there still seems to be a significant level of interest in the topic of dynamic control of links. I had prepared a suggested scope for work to be done, and was not prepared for a reintroduction to the material, which was necessary. After the assembled group was brought up to date on the preceeding work, and some alternatives were discussed, we agreed that my proposal was on the right track. I put this in the form of a problem statement: To develop a standard method of access and control for network links which are available but not normally active within the internet. I offered to publish all the previous minutes and references to the existing documents on the mailing list. After everyone has had a chance to refer to this work and begin discussing it, we will be able to determine if there is reason to form a working group within the IETF. I discussed this work with Phil Almquist, the area director, and he pointed out that anything produced would be best documented as experimental, as there is not enough experience with this work in the internet to suggest the adoption of a proposed standard.
